About Made to Lactate

Made to Lactate LLC provides lactation, feeding and postpartum support to families in the greater Austin, Texas area and, for virtual services, more widely. Services are provided by Kimberly Tran, BSN, RN — a Registered Nurse licensed in the State of Texas, a lactation coach, and a mother of four. Kimberly is currently pursuing IBCLC certification and is not yet credentialed as an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant. She is also completing a Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) as a Family Nurse Practitioner student. Until that training is complete and she is licensed as an advanced practice registered nurse, she practises within Registered Nurse scope only, and FNP training does not extend the scope described below.

Services provided

Depending on the package booked, services may include:

• Virtual and in-home lactation and feeding consultations
• Assessment of feeding, latch, positioning and milk transfer
• Pumping guidance, flange sizing and equipment review
• Bottle feeding, combination feeding and formula feeding education
• Newborn care education, including feeding cues, diaper output, soothing and safe-sleep practices
• Nursing assessment of the postpartum parent and newborn, within Registered Nurse scope of practice
• Review of discharge instructions and medication reconciliation
• Written, individualized feeding and postpartum support plans
• Secure messaging support for the period included in your package
• Practical postpartum household support where that is part of the package booked

Scope of practice

Kimberly Tran provides nursing assessment, education, care coordination and feeding support within the scope of a Registered Nurse under Texas law. Within that scope, a Registered Nurse may assess, educate, support and refer.

These services do not include and must not be relied on as:

• Medical diagnosis of any condition in you or your baby
• Prescribing, adjusting or discontinuing any medication, supplement or treatment
• Obstetric, pediatric or primary medical care
• Emergency or urgent medical care
• Mental health diagnosis or treatment
• Any service requiring a physician order that is not in place

Made to Lactate does not replace your physician, midwife, obstetric provider or your baby’s pediatrician. You are encouraged to keep all scheduled appointments with your own providers and to share your feeding plan with them.

Referral and limitations

Some concerns fall outside what can safely or appropriately be addressed in a lactation or postpartum support visit. Where that happens — for example signs of infection, significant weight loss, jaundice, dehydration, suspected tongue tie requiring evaluation, severe pain, heavy bleeding, or concerns about your mood or safety — you will be advised to contact your provider or seek a higher level of care. Made to Lactate may decline or discontinue services where doing so is in the interest of your safety or your baby’s.

Outcomes vary between families. No guarantee is made about milk supply, weight gain, the resolution of any feeding difficulty, or the ability to breastfeed, pump or combination feed.

Informed consent

By booking, you consent to the services described above, including nursing assessment of you and your baby where it forms part of your package. You may ask questions, decline any part of a visit, pause, or stop at any time without penalty to the care you receive.

For in-home visits, you agree to provide a reasonably safe environment. Photographs are only taken with your explicit permission, and your words, images or story will never be used publicly — including in testimonials or on social media — without your separate written consent.

Your information and privacy

During booking and care you may share health information about yourself and your baby. That information is treated as confidential. It is used to provide your care, to prepare your plan, and to coordinate with your providers where you have asked for that.

• Information is not sold, rented or shared for marketing.
• Information is shared with another provider only with your permission, or where disclosure is required by law.
• Enquiries submitted through this website are sent by email and stored in the website’s systems.
• You may request a copy of your written plan, or ask that your records be deleted, by emailing madetolactate@gmail.com.

Texas law requires certain disclosures, including reporting suspected abuse or neglect, and situations involving imminent risk of harm. These obligations override confidentiality.

Booking, deposits and cancellations

A deposit confirms your appointment and is applied to the total. The balance is due at your appointment unless agreed otherwise. Please give at least 24 hours notice to reschedule so the slot can be offered to another family. Deposits for appointments cancelled with less than 24 hours notice are non-refundable. If Made to Lactate cancels or discontinues a service, any amounts paid for services not delivered are refunded.

Made to Lactate does not bill insurance. You may request documentation to submit to your insurer or HSA/FSA administrator, but reimbursement is not guaranteed and is between you and your plan.
