Sleep is not a luxury
The first weeks are relentless. Broken sleep affects your recovery, your milk supply, your mood and your patience with everything else.
An overnight nurse means one night where you can hand over and genuinely rest — knowing your baby is with someone who can assess as well as soothe.
What happens during the night
We start with a handover
When I arrive we go through where everything is, how your baby has been feeding, anything from your pediatrician, and exactly how you want the night handled. Then you go to bed.
Feeding, your way
How feeding happens is entirely your decision, and we agree it before you sleep:
- If you are breastfeeding — I bring your baby to you for feeds, help with latch and positioning if you want it, then take over the settling and nappy change so you can go straight back to sleep.
- If you are pumping — I can feed expressed milk, wake you for a pump if you want to protect supply, and wash and reassemble your pump parts before morning.
- If you are formula or combination feeding — I prepare and feed bottles to your plan.
You are never required to wake. If you would rather sleep through and have expressed milk or formula given, that is a completely reasonable choice and I will support it without comment.
Safe sleep, every time
Your baby sleeps on their back, on a firm flat surface, in their own sleep space, with no loose bedding, pillows or positioners. I follow safe-sleep practice all night, including for naps in arms — your baby is placed down to sleep, not left sleeping on me or anywhere unsafe.
Watching, not just minding
Between feeds I am observing the things a nurse notices: feeding and output patterns, colour, breathing, temperature, how your baby is settling, and any skin or cord concerns. Anything that needs your pediatrician gets written down clearly and flagged before I leave.
A tidy morning
I handle nappies, baby laundry, bottle and pump washing, and reset the feeding station for the day. You wake to notes on how the night went — every feed, every nappy, how long your baby slept — and a calm room rather than a pile of clearing up.
Who this is for
- Parents recovering from a caesarean or a difficult birth
- Families with twins or multiples
- A first night home, or the first night after a partner returns to work
- Anyone whose supply or mood is suffering from accumulated sleep loss
- Parents who want feeding support overnight, when problems tend to feel worst
Overnight care is not a substitute for medical care. If your baby is unwell, or you have concerns that need assessment, please contact your pediatrician or seek urgent care.
Common questions
Can I book more than one night?
Yes. Many families book two or three nights in a week, or a run of consecutive nights after birth or when returning to work. Tell me what you need and I will confirm availability.
What if my baby will only settle with me?
That is very common and completely normal. I will bring your baby to you when that is what is needed. The aim is more rest overall, not a rigid rule about who settles whom.
Do you need your own room?
No. I stay with your baby wherever is practical — a nursery, a living room, wherever your baby’s safe sleep space is. I just need light, somewhere to sit, and access to a bathroom.
How far in advance should I book?
As early as you can, particularly for a due date. Last-minute nights are sometimes possible, so it is always worth asking.
How do I pay?
A deposit confirms the night and is applied to the total. The balance is due on the night. Cancellations with less than 24 hours notice are non-refundable, as the slot is held for you.
Book a night
Tell me your due date or your baby’s age, which nights you are hoping for, and how you would like feeding handled. I will confirm by email, usually within one business day.
